Beware of spoilers for Darth Vader #46!
In Star Wars: Darth Vader #46recently released, Darth Vader attacks Palpatine’s fortress planet Exegol, where the Emperor is secretly working on building the Final Order’s fleet of Star Destroyers seen in The Rise of Skywalker.
Each ship was equipped with a superlaser capable of destroying planets, not unlike the Death Star itself, likely powered by the giant supply of red kyber crystals.

In fact, this reserve of the element that powers the Jedi’s lightsabers was the real reason Vader planned to invade Exegol—after all, it is a spectacular power source.
Anakin stole the cargo that was used to power the planet-destroying ships seen in The Rise of Skywalker. With the material in hand, the Imperial Schism, a group of Imperials interested in the downfall of Darth Sidious, was able to use it to complete a powerful weapon. Therefore, the Dark Lord’s arsenal has reached a level capable of matching his master’s abilities.
Vader’s attack explains the “scoop”
Darth Vader uses the Force to connect with large kyber crystals and a massive wave of energy completely decimates several cultists who follow Palpatine from the Sith Eternals. The true purpose of the Dark Lord’s attack was to extract and obtain some of his master’s resources, and although the reserve was destroyed, Anakin manages to steal a huge piece of red kyber.

Although this was not shown in the first trilogy of Skywalker Sagahelps explain how Vader, also emotionally destabilized due to how he felt about Lukehe managed to match Palpatine Return of the Jedi. And this revelation also justifies the fact that Darth Sidious was seemingly more shaken and fragile than he should have been in the final battle.
Finally, the destruction and theft of the Kyberites resulting from Vader’s devastating attack in this edition could explain the delay in Palpatine’s resurrection at the end of the third trilogy. Skywalker Sagaas well as the three-decade delay in fully assembling the planet-destroying ships seen in The Rise of Skywalker.
Everything in the comics Star Wars published by Marvel Comics is currently canon, and while it is unclear whether these events directly influenced the third trilogy, they fit perfectly with the explanation of the “hole” seen in The Rise of Skywalker.
