The plot follows a man (Homayoun Ershadi) who wanders around Tehran looking for someone to do an unusual job. He is looking for a person willing to bury him after he committed suicide.
The film premiered at the 50th Cannes Film Festival in 1997. “I Taste of Cherry” shared the Palme d’Or with another film: the Japanese “The Eel,” by Shohei Imamura.
