86 years, 150 films and 1 Oscar: will this Hollywood legend return to cinema soon?

86-year-old Morgan Freeman is one of the most popular Hollywood actors in the world. Winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Million Dollar Baby in 2005, the actor has made his mark in many iconic films, from Miss Daisy and Her Driver to seven including Les Évadés, The Dark Knight, Impitoyable and The Elusive Saga.

In recent years, the actor has moved away from the big screen, his films are released directly on VOD in our regions, such as Vanquish, Paradise Highway, 57 Seconds or the recent Good Man with Florence Pugh. Morgan Freeman hasn’t appeared in French cinemas since June 2021’s Hitman and Bodyguard 2. Will the artist return to theaters soon?

When will we go back to the cinema?

So far, Morgan Freeman has shot only one project, Gunner. It is an action movie in which he plays Luke Hemsworth. It’s a safe bet that this work will also be released straight to VOD.

The story introduces us to the special forces veteran, Lee Gunner (Luke Hemsworth). The latter leads his two boys into the tent. They come across a fentanyl lab and kidnap drug dealers. Unfortunately for them, Lee will stop at nothing to get her children back to safety.

Morgan Freeman has 3 more projects in development. In He to See You Go, he will play Sonny Bell, an aging Chicago blues musician; The latter refuses to retire and hits the road with his band for one last tour, wanting to continue doing the only thing that makes him feel truly alive: playing the blues.

The Memphis native is also slated to star in The Little Bedroom alongside Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne. The artist will play Edmond, a man recovering from a bad fall. After that, he learns that his son has sold his apartment; He then decides to go to a nurse who will help him regain his autonomy.

The magic of cinema!

We don’t yet know if these projects will hit the streaming platform, VOD or theaters. On the other hand, Elusive 3 is definitely on its way and will hit theaters. Morgan Freeman will reprise his role as Thaddeus Bradley alongside the magical team of Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher.

Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Welcome to Zombieland, Uncharted) will direct. The screenplay will be written by Michael Leslie (Assassin’s Creed). No release date has been announced at this time.

“I can’t wait. My character in Elusive is so confident, he’s an artist and a showman. It’s a breath of fresh air as an actor to be able to live in that kind of world.”Jesse Eisenberg told ComingSoon last April.
