The Valentine’s Day murders take place in a small mining town. Ten years earlier, five miners died in the underground tunnels after a mistake made by an inexperienced miner, Tom Haniger. Harry Warden, the only survivor, remains in a coma. And his desire for revenge leads him to wake up a year later, on Valentine’s Day, and kill twenty-two people before being shot himself. Ten years later, Tom Haniger returns to the town of Harmony, still haunted by the death he caused. While trying to move on, he also has to accept that his ex-girlfriend, Sara, is now married to his best friend, Axel, who has become a police chief. But the past is stubborn, and that evening, after years of calm, the darkness seemed to return. Masked as a miner and armed with a machete, a killer terrorizes the town of Harmony. As he gets closer and closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel suspect that Harry Warden is back to carry out his revenge plan.
The 1981 film grossed $5.7 million internationally, while Patrick Lussier’s $15 million film grossed $100 million worldwide.
The Valentine’s Day Murders never had a sequel, but both films have become classics for fans of the genre. That’s why Jason Blum’s studio decided to start a new movie and why not a franchise. Neither the director, nor the actor, nor the release date are yet known.
