Having completed 50 years of a victorious trajectory, Alcyone has prepared a series of commemorative events with the exclusive purpose of celebrating this historic half century of dedication and love for Music. In addition to the tours, throughout Brazil and abroad, which represent a rebirth of her career, the artist recorded an audiovisual, with her main hits, at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro. The celebration arrives Curitibain the day June 8thto the Positive theatre. Tickets are on sale.
But there are countless celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary. Celebrations began already with the release of the feature film “O Samba é Primo do Jazz”, a biographical summary that was presented at film festivals and tells the story of the performer from Maranhão who left her little São Luís to conquer the world with a great unmistakable voice and a surprising personality. Alcyone went to school and every day new “Alcioninhas” appeared around. Complete proof that the singer from the North East has already perpetuated herself and she has long since written some of the best pages in our songbook.
In addition to countless performances throughout Brazil, Alcione’s tour also received applause in cities in Europe and Africa, such as London, Lisbon, Porto and Angola.
As announced by the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Cláudio Castro, the highest recognition of the state’s cultural merit, called “Medalha Alcione”, which will become an annual event, was awarded for the first time to samba personalities last November 21 (the date marking Marrom’s birthday).
To summarize this long and incredibly successful journey, it is worth reiterating that Marrom’s domains go beyond borders. The artist has performed on five continents, in more than 36 countries, at major international festivals and concert halls. Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Japan, Angola, France, Mozambique, England, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and even the former Soviet Union. This happened even before the opening of Perestroika by the countries that are today Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine and Russia.
Alcione has recorded compacts (the first in 1972), LPS, DVDs and 42 albums, which have earned him 26 gold discs, 7 platinum, of which 2 double platinum, 3 gold DVDs and 1 platinum. In its trophy gallery, which has more than 350 pieces (awards and honors ranging from the titles of Meritorious Citizen to the highest honors in the country such as the “Order of the Rio Branco” and the “Al Merito di Timbiras” (the latter awarded by the State of Maranhão) and relevant medals such as “Tiradentes” and “Pedro Ernesto” (awarded by the ALERJ). Awards related to the MPB fill its shelves, for example, the 21 trophies won in the 29 editions of the “Brazilian Music Award” . were “Godmother of Firefighters RJ” and “Best Popular Singer” awarded by the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
Marrom is also the holder of numerous international awards, such as the “Latin Grammy” in the category “Best Samba Album”, “O Pensador de Marfim” (granted by the Government of Angola), “Diplome de Médaille D´or” (by the Societé Acadêmique de Arts, Sciences et Lettres de Paris), “Extraordinary contribution to Brazilian culture and positive image” (awarded at the 9th Annual Brazilian International Press Award. Florida), “Personalidade Negra das Artes” (International Council of Women) and “A Voz of America” (UN).
Having grown up listening to the great national and international singers of the time, she has always moved between different musical genres and styles: samba, jazz, bolero, reggae, romantic songs. And although she is treated like a samba singer, she loves to record and perform what suits her and moves her. And the gallery of hits is immeasurable: “Não Let o Samba Morrer” (a sort of anthem for samba singers), “Sufoco”, “Você Me Vira a Cabeça”, “A Loba”, “Meu Ébano”, “Mulher Ideal ” “, “Garoto Maroto”, “Estranha Loucura”, “Nem Morta”, “Além da Cama”, “Faz Uma Madura Por Mim”, “Gostoso Veneno”, among dozens of hits.
Alcione, who during the pandemic released a new album entitled “Brick by brick“, he is delighted with so many tributes.
