First impressions: new Audi A4 and A5 Quattro in Brazil

Present in the brand for over 40 years, the Quattro all-wheel drive system returns to the Audi A4 and A5 in the 2025 lineup with particular attention

More than 40 years ago, a car surprised the world of rallying not only with performance exceeding expectations for a touring model, but with an all-wheel drive system that would become the hallmark of this company’s products, aimed at the everyday driver . Common? Not so much. We are talking about Audi and its famous Audi Quattro, produced from 1980 to 1991 with the main aim of participating in international races on dirt roads.

The Audi Quattro demystified the 4×4 all-wheel drive system and haunted the tracks with its 500+ horsepower engine, and some of these cars were even sold to the public eager for high-performance road cars. It is currently difficult to separate the image of any Audi model from the Quattro all-wheel drive system.

This is why Audi once again offers us its most “popular” models – so to speak – with the Quattro system. The current generation Audi A4 and A5, which arrived in 2015, had this system, but it was removed in 2021, causing the four-ring brand to flee to competing brands. After all, who wants an Audi without Quattro traction?

With plenty of time ahead of the arrival of the next generation Audi A4 and A5, the chance to once again offer the best of the brand in its compact sedans is an attempt to regain its market numbers. Thus, last week Audi presented its new A4 and A5 Sportback and reminded those present at the event of the virtues of all-wheel drive with a test drive on a wet track at the GoodYear Proving Ground, in Americana, within San Paul .

With the return of Quattro traction, the two Audi models have had a price adjustment, but honestly they are worth the investment for technology, safety and driving pleasure. And the A4 or A5 will no longer be offered with “normal” front-wheel drive.

The Audi A4 is a traditional sedan, with a distinct appearance, but which retains some of the brand’s sporting DNA, even with its 204 HP 2.0 Turbo FSI inline four-cylinder engine (this engine has already been offered with more power) . The gearbox is a seven-speed Stronic.
