The first edition of the Sao Paulo Parade took place in 1997, without much support or sponsorship. Very informally, one of the pioneering figures of the LGBT movement in the capital of São Paulo, the artist and drag queen Kaká Di Polly, lay down on the asphalt of Paulista, helping to block traffic and starting the march. That year there were around 2 thousand participants.

Almost 30 years later, the Sao Paulo parade even secured a place in the Guinness World Book when it managed to bring together 2.5 million people in Paulista during the 2006 edition: it was the largest parade in its kind in the world. Today it continues to be one of the largest diversity events in Brazil.

In the 2024 edition, the theme of the parade is “Enough with negligence and relegation in the legislature: consciously vote for the right of the LGBT+ population”, with 20 partner brands and 16 trios.
