Modern Playlist | 50 clips with the best of current alternative rock

Monthly marathon highlights new music from Still Corners, Los Bitchos, Amyl and The Sniffers, Fontaines DC and the partnership between Blondshell and Bully

The Modern Playlist offers the best of the alternative sound in 50 recent clips featuring highlights from the next generation, accompanied by news from selected pioneers. This time, the 3-hour sound list starts softly with indie folk, moves through psychedelia, enters acid jazz and ends up distorted by shoegaze and grunge revivalists. Among the veterans, none surpasses John Cale, founder of the Velvet Underground, who remains young at 82, demonstrating since 1968 how much feedback a shoegaze recording uses.

Also included in the selection are Still Corners, a British duo revered for their dreampop folk, the girl group Los Bitchos, which mixes surf music, cumbia and psychedelic influences in instrumental rock, the Australian punk band Amyl and The Sniffers, known for their energetic performances by singer Amy Taylor, the band Fontaines DC, highlighted by its poetic lyrics and raw sound, reflecting urban life in Dublin, and the partnership between Blondshell, Sabrina Teitelbaum’s project, and Bully, led by Alicia Bognanno, in a melodic grunge of vocal intensity.

As always, videos are organized by sound affinity in a playlist – to watch on Smart TV, look for Cast in Chrome’s Settings tab or More Tools/Stream etc. on Edge -, with the aim of inserting a sequence that enhances the impression of video/mixtape recording. Try listening without skipping tracks on the Premium version of YouTube (without ad breaks). Or just press play and forget it.
