Pimenta says the federal government will buy homes for people earning up to R$4,400

He says interest-free credit lines will be provided for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs affected by the floods

The Extraordinary Minister for the Reconstruction of the RS, Paulo Pimenta, declared this Monday (3), in the RaioX program, that the greatest social problem caused by the floods is concentrated in the Metropolitan Region. He points out that several houses have been built near the dams over the years and that most families have been left homeless, many of whom have remained in shelters. Pimenta also highlights the federal government’s idea of providing homes to people earning up to R$4,400.

“All the people in bands 1 and 2 of Minha Casa, Minha Vida (those who earn up to R$4,400), which represent 93% of the population, and who live in risk areas or whose homes have been flooded or lost, the federal government is going to buy a house,” he revealed.

Pimenta underlines that the resources for the purchase will come from the federal government and that the details of this plan are still being defined. However, the program will be carried out in a serious and careful way, because “it makes no sense for everyone to go crazy and find themselves in a risk area”. The minister underlines that various aspects will be analysed, such as census data, registration of municipalities and the analysis of residence documents to define these resources.

Also in the interview, Pimenta specifies that interest-free credit lines will be issued for micro, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs affected by the floods. The amount will amount to 60% of the previous year’s earnings and can be paid in a maximum of 36 months and will have a grace period of six months. For larger businesses, the minister highlights that an amount of R$15 billion has been released for larger entrepreneurs who need to acquire equipment, property and working capital.

The minister was keen to underline that the floods in the state are “not linear”, as in the Central Region they have been less adverse than in areas such as Vale do Taquari and the Metropolitan Region. Pimenta also says that in the south of the RS the cities have had more time to prepare for the flood, but that the situation is still serious and has been more serious than expected.
