The number of intentional homicides decreased by 29.1% in May in Rio Grande do Sul, from 110 cases in 2023 to 78 this year. Accumulated since January 2024, the decline is 15% in this type of crime. Feminicides also decreased during the month, with two cases: a 60% reduction compared to the five episodes recorded in 2023. Over the five months of the year the decrease is 29%.
Robbery incidents went from one in May 2023 to four this year. In total, the decline was 13.6%: from 22 cases in 2023 to 19 since January this year.

Crimes against property
Vehicle thefts in May decreased by 55% compared to the same month the previous year, from 314 in May 2023 to 139 in May this year. Accumulated since January, the reduction is 37%. Pedestrian robberies in May decreased by 74% statewide, from 2,659 cases in 2023 to 687 in 2024. Since January, this type of crime has decreased by 45% in the RS.
Banking incidents in May decreased by 75%, from four cases in 2023 to one in 2024. Year to date, incidents related to financial institutions closed with a decline of 33%, from 15 cases last year to ten in 2024.
In commercial establishments, the reductions follow those observed in the other capital indicators. In the month of May this type of crime fell by 31.4%, going from 471 to 323. Since January the drop has been 16%.
Five accidents were recorded in public transport in May 2024, while the previous year the cases had reached 95. In total, since January the reduction in crimes against users and professionals of public transport has been 42%.
On the field, abigeato records went from 380 in 2023 to 161 in May this year, a decline of 57%. Overall, crime has also continued to decline, with nearly 30% fewer cases since January 2024 compared to the same period the previous year.
