Netflix: Black Mirror will break one of the sacred rules of the series

This is the good news we heard last March. Black Mirror is coming back for a seventh season on Netflix and with a surprise! However, Netflix took advantage and announced a sequel to the episode “USS Callister”.

Now, series creator Charlie Brooker is finally explaining why one of the series’ most popular episodes is getting a sequel, an unprecedented event in the series’ history that we can remember as an anthology series.

This “USS Callister 2” will come with a new burst of episodes planned for Season 7. While most of the episodes of the anthology series also deserve to expand their story, a continuation of the famous episode USS Callister is on the mind of the creator. for quite a long time.

A long time project

That’s how Charlie Brooker tells it in the columns The Hollywood Reporter :”This has been a long time coming. And that’s partly because of how it ends. The first episode ends as if we can continue the story and follow what they are doing now. So I always said to myself, “Hmm, I’ll do that.” This was something we discussed for a long time.

Brooker adds:There were several versions that we wanted to do and discussed for several years. But there are many schedules to meet, and then the pandemic intervened. It was something that seemed like it shouldn’t happen, and so I’m glad it did. And writing characters is a luxury I don’t have very often. I never had that chance in Black Mirror to have a character that survives beyond one episode! So it was a lot of fun and watching them on set was fantastic.

Who will be back in the episode?

The original USS Callister episode from Black Mirror season four, Jesse Plemons as Robert Dahl, Christine Milioti as Nanette Cole, Michaela Coel as Shania Lowry, Billy Magnussen as Waldak, Milanka Brooks as Elena Tulaska or even. Jimmy Simpson in James Walton.

All of these characters are counterparts to Robert Dahl – an abandoned and very frustrated boy – who created digital clones of his peers from their DNA in order to trap them in a multiplayer game, the Star Trek universe he created. Obviously, it doesn’t turn out so well after all. Indeed, the virtual clones manage to trap Delhi in the game and in the real world, with the player’s mind seemingly trapped inside his body, which has become inert.

So the presence of Jesse Plemons raises questions. And of course, the Black Mirror creator isn’t revealing much more about the sequel, including the cast of the USS Callister, but hints that they’re picking up where they left off.

you see But we continue the story where we left off. And there are new characters too. There are new things that they have become versus what they were

Black Mirror season 7 will be released in 2025.
