Netflix announces biggest update in 10 years; see what changes

Netflix launched the biggest update to its TV app in 10 years on Thursday (6), as reported by Reuters. According to the streaming agency, the new look comes to ease user navigation on the homepage, helping viewers decide more quickly what they want to watch.

What changes in the Netflix app on TV?

The changes come after company research showed that users were performing what Netflix executive Pat Flemming called “eye gymnastics” in an interview with The Verge: looking at various parts of the Netflix home screen, while trying to find an interesting title. In short, it was noticed that the user was clicking a lot while scrolling the screen and looking for relevant information.

We often see members doing eye gymnastics as they examine the home experience. We want to make it easier for members to find out if a title is right for them.

Pat Flemming, senior director of product at Netflix, told The Verge.

The company also noted that it is not making any changes to its recommendation algorithm as part of the redesign.

Initially, the platform will test the new homepage among a small group of subscribers who use smart TVs and other streaming devices. After feedback and possibly modifications, the rollout should take place on a larger scale.

If all goes well, which we’re excited about and hope it does, we’d love to share it with as many members over the next few months and quarters.
