Starring Glen Powell, the film Killer By Chance is a fun comedy, but in terms of action it leaves a lot to be desired.
Action movies usually don’t have very innovative plots. With the exception of one here and there, most follow the same structure: car or motorcycle chases, a few explosions, exchanges of punches and happy endings. If done well, they can become great productions, but Accidental murderernew film from director Richard Linklater, responsible for the trilogy Before sunrisewhich hits theaters on June 12, focuses on the generic and leaves a little to be desired in terms of its genre premise.
The plot is attractive, but the execution doesn’t provide any action. The most the audience will see on screen is an argument here, a death there, and lots of kissing and romantic scenes. So the truth is that the film was sold in the wrong genre.
Starring and written by Glen Powell (Top Gun: nonconformist), the plot tells the story of Gary Johnson, a professor of philosophy and psychology who, thanks to his skill with technological devices, finds work in the United States police force.

After his dishonest colleague is fired, he must take on the role of “hitman”, a fake hitman who aims to arrest people who want to hire his services. To do this, he abuses questionable disguises, which ensures the film’s entertainment and is the highlight of Powell’s performance.
But since not everything is rosy, one day he is hired by Madison (Adria Arjona), an attractive young woman who, due to an abusive relationship, decides to kill her husband. Moved by the woman’s situation and beauty, Gary decides to give her a chance and advises her to rebuild her life with the amount she would have paid him.

When the woman takes the advice, the film focuses on the secret love story of the two and the great sexual chemistry they have. But while Gary takes on the role of the film’s star, allowing Powell to showcase her talents on stage, Madison is constructed solely as a horny woman willing to do anything for a good night of sex.
Adria Arjona, who starred in films such as Morbio AND Team 6, she is completely underused and reduced to the stereotype of a vulgar woman, and in the end the film is much more about the strategies the couple uses to stay together than about the protagonist’s work as a hitwoman.
Despite this, it must be said that, on a comedic level, the film does well. It’s light, fun, entertaining, and makes two hours of screen time go by in the blink of an eye. Powell wastes no time with jokes and the plot doesn’t feel overwrought. Added to this is the small but excellent participation of Retta, the comedian protagonist of the series Good girlS from the Netflixand the recipe for making the audience laugh is ready.

Based on a true story
Another success from Accidental murderer it’s that it turns a real story that might be too simplistic into a much more interesting and enjoyable plot to watch. In the US the film was released on Netflix, which makes much more sense for the film’s more measured proposition.
Indeed, Hitman, as they call it in English, has good successes, is pleasant to watch, but so common that it is not worth the cinema ticket. Better to play Netflix, lying under the covers, eating popcorn.
