Sport and Paysandu faced each other this Monday (9/6), at the Arena Pernambuco, in the ninth round of the Brazilian Serie B. Better positioned and supported by the fans, the Pernambuco team won 1-0. Fabrício Domínguez, in the 27th minute of the final phase, scored the goal that defined Sport’s triumph.
For Sport, the result puts an end to the sequence of failures and brings the team to 15 points, in fifth place. It has the same position as Santos, first in the G4, but with a lower balance. But with one detail: there is one less game. Paysandu, fresh from a win in the last round that took it out of the relegation zone, remains with eight points, in 16th place. Therefore, he is the first to leave the attack zone. Curiosity: the high number of yellow cards (10) in a match that turned out to be fair. The judge went too far.
Leão from Pernambuco wins, but doesn’t reach goal
Sport did much better in the first half, imposing its game with greater ball possession (54%) and many more shots (11 against 2). The team moves well on the flanks and always arrives in the area. But what was missing was the goal. Alan Ruiz finishes the shot, Pedro Lima wastes a shot from outside the net. Pedro Vilhena heads against the post after a cross and Lucas Lima. Paysandu was only scared with a header after a counterattack from the left. Therefore, the score did not go 0-0 in the first 45 minutes.

The final stage saw Paysandu less retreating and offering danger to the sport. But the home team built good plays with Pedro Vilhena on the left. In the 24th minute, a pass from Zé Roberto to Pedro Vilhena almost led to a goal. But, at 27 years old, a party for Leão Zé Roberto received him in the middle and played with a heel to Fabrício Domínguez. This bold pass killed the defense, which did not reach the attacker. Thus, Fabrício Domínguez hit hard to make it 1-0 and eventually scored his first goal for Sport.
