Government leader sets fire to Haddad showing dissatisfaction with Treasury proposal; read behind the scenes

Senator Jaques Wagner said Pacheco’s action to return the deputy “received Lula’s applause” and stopped what would have been an “endless tragedy”

BRASILIA-A speech by the head of government in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), in the plenary session of the Chamberafter the announcement of the return of MP which limits the compensation of PIS/Cofins credits by companieson the afternoon of Tuesday 11th, gave the extent of the dissatisfaction of the Congress – and of the Executive itself – with the project presented by the Ministry of Finance.

According to Wagner, who sat next to the President of the Chamber, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), during the announcement, the senator from Minas Gerais “found a solution that was applauded by the President of the Republic” and “had the ability to find a legal and constitutional plan to stop what would be an endless tragedy.”

In other words: for the government leader the mistake was made by the Treasury, and Lula had to accept the return to avoid even worse consequences.

Businessmen who flocked to the Senate to watch the session said that the Prime Minister of the Civil Chamber, Rui Costa, said he was not aware of the impact of the measure on the production sector, which was interpreted as a sign that Haddad had not the supportive capacity of the government leadership in the MP.

There are also reports, such as the Estadaothat the Ministers of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, and of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin, they were not consulted on the content of the text.

These same entrepreneurs understood that the biggest mistake was made by Minister Fernando Haddad’s team and that they do not see a minister as an enemy. There is always a fear in the manufacturing industry that too much pressure on Haddad could cause him to lose his position, leading to a “worse” option for the position.
