We will have to wait until the end of 2025 before we discover the second part of the Batman adventures played by Robert Pattinson on the big screen. A new version of the Dark Knight, not part of James Gunn’s DC Comics reboot, has spawned one of the fan-favorite incarnations of the iconic superhero in cinema.
But before Batman returns, the film universe will expand in the form of a spin-off series. In the first part of the saga, the Black Knight, played by Robert Pattinson, faced several opponents, especially the Sphinx, played by Paul Dano, but also Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin.
Who recognized the penguin translator in Batman?
An iconic character in the DC universe, although the latter played only a secondary role in the film. Donned by Colin Farrell (unknown), Penguin appeared as a mobster who took advantage of the chaos to ensure his rise in Gotham City’s crime syndicate. At the end of a spectacular chase, his face-to-face interrogation of Batman ends in a muscle-bound interrogation.
In order to give more depth to the character, it was decided to dedicate the series to Penguin. The long-running project has been delayed several times (notably due to the 2023 Hollywood strike), the series is finally getting ready to hit our screens via the new Max streaming platform.
A surprising influence on the DC Comics series
Like Batman, influenced by film noir and aesthetics, the Penguin series will not use classic superhero codes. On the contrary, the program will be inspired by classic mafia films, especially Scarface, and the sinister appearance of the title character evokes Tony Soprano (from the series The Sopranos).
A cameo by Robert Pattison in the series is not excluded, but the information has never been officially confirmed. The presence of the English actor near the filming lit up the Internet, and since then many specialized sites have said that the latter will appear as Bruce Wayne, but not in a Batman costume.
Eight episodes of The Penguin series will air on the Max platform from next September!
