For Lupion, the secretary’s resignation would have served to spare the president of the National Supply Company (Conab), Edegar Pretto, who is from the PT. The auction was canceled due to suspected irregularities in the process.
“They gave away the head of secretary Neri Geller to save the PT. So that Edegar Pretto himself does not suffer wear and tear. The great reality is that they are covering the sun with a sieve”, declared Lupion during yesterday’s session. of the House Agriculture Committee.
The parliamentarian estimates that holding a new auction will probably re-present the same problems found in the canceled one.
“There is already talk of holding a new auction. Once again there will be fraud,” predicted the MP. “The auction will only serve to deregulate the country’s rice market and discourage rural producers. With 7 billion Brazilian reals wanting to buy this rice they will be able to finance 5 million hectares of rice plantations. It’s madness,” he complained.
