Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Marina Foys, Jonathan Cohen and the baby in the back.
Coming out of the experimental and documentary world, Sophie Letourner then turned to feature cinema, which loved to combine fantasy and lightness with raw realism. hugeHis fourth feature film is no exception.
The pitch is already the opposite of the usual situations: indeed, Claire, a virtuoso pianist, has a child with Frederic, her husband. Without confrontation, the film falls more into a genre that is both comical and terrifying, with improvisational sequences of hospital staff juxtaposed against fictional scenes, with Jonathan Cohen and Marina Foys illustrating as rarely seen.
Absurdity inevitably takes over when pregnancy becomes a physical reality, close to science fiction. Mirroring a man’s crotch, a woman’s belly swells to take on extraordinary proportions. Thus, the audience moves from laughter to discomfort, from discomfort to laughter.
However, behind this wry humor, Sophie Letourneur addresses powerful issues – pregnancy denial, over-medicalization and the place of men – supported by a Polaroid format that participates in the establishment these themes suggest.
Huge Sophie Letourneur with Marina Foy, Jonathan Cohen, Jacqueline Kakus…
Tonight at Arte at 20:55.
