The blue and white team will face Real Olviedo in the big decision for a place in the first division of the Spanish competition
Espanyol is close to returning to the first division of the Spanish championship. This Thursday the Barcelona club drew 0-0 against Sporting Gijón and reached the final of the competition. The first match was a 1-0 victory for the blue and whites, which guaranteed the classification.
Espanyol started the match in the best way possible, with great attitude, pressing high and looking for victory from the start. However, Sporting Gijón made the match difficult and balanced. Both had chances, but failed to put the ball in the net.
In added time, Omar, from Gijón, received a red card for a hard tackle on Campuzano. The home team suffered the onslaught of a combative Sporting team in the final minutes, but was satisfied with qualifying for the final.
Next Sunday, the team led by Manolo González will visit Oviedo to face the first round of the final qualifying phase of the Spanish first division.
