This week, the French TV channels decided to give pride of place to Steven Spielberg! After the airing of West Side Story on W9 on Tuesdays, which made us want to give you a quiz on musical comedies, it’s time for his previous film, Ready Player One, to air, this time on TMC.

The 2018 film, directed by Tye Sheridan, marks the director’s big return to sci-fi, thirteen years after his version of The War of the Worlds. A genre in which he has already excelled – notably Minority Report, AI and, of course, the iconic ET The Extra-Terrestrial and the masterpiece Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind – and to which he will return in his upcoming, highly anticipated film. 2026 year.

Ready Player One contains numerous pop culture references from the 80s and 90s, including Tron, Akira, The Iron Giant, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Nightmare Before Christmas, Tomb Raider, and Duke Nukem.

Expected roles

Nick Robinson, Nat Wolff and Dalton Vaughn were approached to step into the shoes of Parzival aka Wade Watts before Ty Sheridan eventually took over. For the role of Art3mis, as well as Samantha Cook, Elle Fanning and Lola Kirk were considered before Spielberg turned his attention to Olivia Cooke.

Alan replaces John

Spielberg’s legendary favorite composer John Williams did not compose the score for Ready Player One. There was talk that he would take care of it, but his commitment to the filmmaker’s previous film, The Pentagon Papers, prevented him from doing so. It was the no less legendary Alan Sylvester, to whom we dedicate the soundtrack to Back to the Future (and practically all of Robert Zemeckis’ films), who was responsible for writing the film’s score.
