5 years after the announcement, this Marvel movie is still losing its director: is the project in danger?

In the pipeline from 2019, the Blade project should take another heavy hit! Delayed several times, the feature film is expected to release on November 5, 2025. However, it risks being postponed again as director Yang Demang has thrown in the towel.

A new slug for the blade

According to transferThe French filmmaker left the project after an amicable settlement with Marvel Studios. The film starring Mahershala Ali has lost its director for the second time. Initially, the project was led by Basam Tariq. He left his post in September 2022.

Like Thor 2 with Patty Jenkins, Ant-Man with Edgar Wright, Doctor Strange 2 with Scott Derrickson or, more recently, Fantastic Four with John Watts, Blade joins the list of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects that have been orphaned by their original director.

Take your time

According to The Wrap, Marvel doesn’t want to rush and take its time to make the movie a success. Blade is currently written by Eric Pearson (Fantastic 4). Previous screenplays were written by Michael Starberry, Nick Pizzolatto, and Michael Green. Who will replace Yang Demang? Bets are open!

Originally scheduled for release on November 3, 2023, the film was eventually pushed back to September 6, 2024. It is now scheduled for November 5, 2025. Mahershala Ali is still attached to the project as Durnambulist, an iconic role previously played by Wesley Snipes.

The first Blade trilogy grossed over $400 million at the worldwide box office and contributed greatly to the rise of superhero movies in theaters.

In anticipation of the return of Blade, the MCU returns to theaters on July 24th with Deadpool & Wolverine!
