Is Paradise Paris with Monica Bellucci a good movie? The audience shares the opinion of the director of Persepolis on the comedy

His last achievement dates back to 2020 and the days before his first imprisonment. After four years, Marjane Satrapi is again in our cinemas. Paradis Paris now follows Marie Curie’s biopic Radioactive.

An ensemble comedy set in the present day that deals with death (and therefore life) and loneliness in the capital. With a cast featuring Monica Bellucci, Andre Dusolier and Alex Lutz.

But what did audiences think of Marjane Satrapi’s sixth feature film, which was revealed at Persepolis?

With an average of 2.7 out of 5 from 38 ratings, Paradis Paris is the fourth best film of its director. Or second worst, well ahead of La Bande des Jotas (2 out of 5) and behind Radioactive (3 out of 5).

They liked it

Severin (5 out of 5): “This film is a beautiful statement about Paris. Marjan Satrapi, the director, celebrates the city of light and cosmopolitan, where accents and cultures are mixed, from Italy to Spain through Colombia. Even if the common theme is ‘death’, each character will participate. We got an ode to life in a beautiful story !”

Marine V (5 of 5): “It’s a bright, funny, touching film, the music is beautiful and perfectly accompanies the film!”

Even if the common theme is ‘death’, each hero leads us to a beautiful story of an ode to life!

Gigalim (5 of 5): “Lively, funny, moving. A film that knows how to strike a few chords. Beautiful views of Paris.”

They didn’t like it

Selenium (2 of 5): “Marjan Satrapi’s goal is clear and understandable: to pay tribute to Paris, the city of light, which he sees as free, happy, multicultural and cosmopolitan. Unfortunately, the director is not very careful and lacks creativity.

It seems that the director has no more imagination. Where did the humor and relevance of “Persepolis” (2007) go?! Where did the madness and impudence of “Voices” (2014) go?! Sluggish in both substance and form, this unforgettable film will unfortunately and surely be quickly forgotten.”

Pierre P. (2 of 5): “There’s no point in finding the funny stuff in Persepolis, it’s all too overwritten to hit the mark. Sure, the whole thing has some situations that work and touch us, some lines that hit the mark, but it’s all there too. Overwritten, too Forced and to the extent that it’s a little unrelated, we get lost.

Finally, the acting of the actors and actresses doesn’t help me (Bellucci didn’t convince me, nor did Dusollier et al remain captive to fairly conventional roles).

Sluggish in both substance and form, this unforgettable film will unfortunately and surely be quickly forgotten

Philip V (2 of 5): “This satrap is a disappointment. A collage of different stories that don’t work. Very bad acting direction means that even Lutz isn’t good! I still had to laugh a few times, but the lines are often predictable. I’m going to read it again. Persepolis and the Hen with the Plum I loved it.”

Thomas G. (0.5 out of 5): “A very long film, without head or tail, without any meaning to avoid, wants to be funny without being.”

in total

Thanks to Marjan Satrapi, Paris is magical, if the most positive reviews are to be believed, which also emphasize the fun of this ode to life. But humor is still considered. And if the opponents of the feature film admit that sometimes (smile), they emphasize the inequality of the whole in all aspects.

And comparisons with the director’s previous works, especially Persepolis, do not work in favor of Paradis Paris.

And you ? What do you think about this movie?
