In the mid-eighties, a sitcom featuring four middle-aged women became an instant cult: Les Craquantes – or The Golden Girls in the original version. Designer Ryan Murphy now produces a modern and masculine version: Mid-Century Modern. All this is carried over by the showrooms of another iconic sitcom, this time from the nineties, Will & Grace.
The series tells the story of three best friends, gay men of a certain age, who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their lives together in Palm Springs, where the richest man lives with his mother and “a young butler completely naked.”
On-screen actors Matt Bomer (FBI: Very Special Duo, Fellow Travelers) and Nathan Lane (Birdcage, The Producers) will star opposite each other. The latter will play Bunny Schneiderman, a man on an eternal search for love. Matt Bomer will play Jerry Frank, who after him it comes outHe left the Mormon Church and ended his marriage with a woman.
To round out the cast of this sitcom, actress Linda LaVine will play Bunny’s mother, Sybil Schneiderman, an iconoclastic woman who is witty and very gentle.
While the project is not currently attached to any channel or platform, it is being produced by 20th Television Studios.
Although he’s only a producer here, Ryan Murphy continues his work as a representative of the LGBTQ+ community on the small screen with this sitcom that promises, if the synopsis is to be believed, some caustic humor.
Mid-Century Modern, coming soon.
