did you do it right? The former referee analyzes the controversy over the Netherlands’ disallowed goal against France

The referee’s decision generated repercussions on social media

The match between Holland and France, for the European Championship, was very controversial this Friday (21). Xavi Simons scored for the Dutch, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Match commentator on CazéTV, Ju Cabral, read a message from referee commentator Renata Ruel about the move.

– He said that the goal was rightly disallowed, due to the proximity of the offside player to the side where the goalkeeper could fall to make the save. The referee is not called to the monitor to re-evaluate the action because the VAR understood that the assistant’s decision was correct – Ju Cabral commented on the broadcast.

The action occurred in the 23rd minute of the second half. Xavi Simons takes advantage of a rebound from Maignan and shoots hard into the corner. However, Dumfries were close to the French goalkeeper, in an offside position. Internet users complained that even without the presence of the full-back, the archer was unable to reach the ball.

The goal was disallowed by the on-field assistant and VAR did not call the referee for a review. The teams have not come back from 0-0 and have four points each in Group D of the European Championship, which also includes Austria and Poland.
