Motorola has arrived with everything needed in 2024 with the Edge 50 line, closing the gap with Samsung, but has room for improvement
A Motorola unsuccessful attempt to reach the SAMSUNG present in the national market of premium mobile phones since 2020, but has never given up: with the new Edge 50, already tested here in CT, tries again and has already had an excellent response. But can we say that Motorola has finally caught up with the South Koreans in terms of quality, or does it still have some ground to cover?

The great evolution of Motorola cell phones
The premium Edge line was born in 2020 with very interesting and competitive models. The Edge+ 5G, for example, was equipped with one of the most curved screens of the time and top-of-the-range performance, but inferior cameras for the category: this feature, in fact, was Motorola’s main Achilles heel in the last few years .
Already the Bordo20 Pro (2021) passed the CT test bench with many positive points, although it was still behind Samsung phones in terms of camera and construction. OR Edge 30 Ultra (2022), which we also analyzedthey improved the cameras, but their set came up short Galaxy S22its competitor at the time.

In 2023, Motorola has not launched a high-end product in Brazil, but we had the excellent premium mid-range Edge 40. It was in this generation, in fact, that we started to look more closely at the line, as they introduced water resistance and improved cameras.
And then we got to 2024 with the Edge 50. We tested the models Edge 50 Pro and 50 Ultra, and it was really hard to find fault with it. There is also video on our YouTube by Pedro Cipoli – which is very difficult to please – praising the device.
The competition is strong
The new Edge 50 competes a lot with the line Galaxy S24 as with the iPhone15 from the Apple. These are smartphones that we have already analyzed here in CT, whose families are already consolidated in the premium range, so it is a very difficult sector to enter and attract attention.

However, according to Motorola during an event in Sao Paulo in May this year, its devices are already considered premium, be it the Edge or the foldable Razr. This is great news because the more operators on the market, the better it is for the consumer.
Can Motorola compete in the premium segment?
According to journalists and content creators I spoke with for this report, Motorola has significantly narrowed the existing gap with Samsung in recent years. And the Edge 50 Ultra was the manufacturer’s boldest move yet.

Rodrigo Toledo, a content creator with extensive knowledge of the Android ecosystem, told us that the Edge 50 Ultra represents a shift in Motorola’s portfolio, outperforming Samsung and Apple devices in some aspects, but falling behind in others.
“Motorola with the Edge 50 Ultra has improved many aspects where its predecessors failed: photos with the device are as good as on Samsung phones; videos are a little worse, and I have the impression that Motorola has not yet mastered This technique used by us content creators also loses features, such as manual mode in videos and 24 fps recording,” Toledo told FreeGameGuide.
On the other hand, according to Toledo, Motorola cell phones have an advantage in terms of user experience. “The Edge 50 Ultra’s interface is extremely fluid, both navigating through Windows and in Moto Connect mode, which turns your phone into a desktop.”
“This sense of Motorola’s evolution is due to the fact that it had to chase competition in the premium segment. While we have seen Samsung make small changes to the Galaxy S22, S23 and S24 lines, Motorola has taken bigger steps to become competitive in the segment,” he said. concluded the YouTuber.
Journalists from technology focused on the mobile market, they mainly criticized the stagnation of the sector to justify Motorola’s progress. Victor Carvalho, product specialist at CT, points out that Samsung has become the company that sells the most and therefore does not see many reasons to change.
“However, for competitors, especially Motorola, offering better, prettier and more advanced models with each generation is a surefire strategy to attract consumers looking for exciting new features, like 125W charging,” Victor told CT.
As the second best-selling brand in Brazil, Motorola is the only one with the potential to compete with Samsung in the premium segment. A The real me still has little market share, while Oppo he hasn’t put his best chips here so far.
In other words, we can say that, after a few years of sliding, Motorola is finally back on track with the Edge 50 family. Even if it still does not reach its rivals in terms of cameras, the difference is increasingly smaller, forcing brands like Samsung they activate the alert in other departments.
