Season 4 of The Boys is in full swing on Prime Video and continues to be a hit with fans. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ann and Darric Robertson and created by Eric Kripke, this new burst of fictional episodes continues the boys’ adventures in conflict with the Homelander and the American government.
Although the series still has so many violent, goofy and cynical sequences, it is also the scene of many coups. And one is about the superhero black noir that was supposed to die last season.
Who is behind the new Black Noir?
However, we find him in the fourth batch of episodes of The Boys under a different identity and even very talkative, while Black Noir never expressed himself. Someone else is hiding under the black noir costume, but who?
Fans then immediately came up with a reference to the comics that serve as the inspiration for the series, revealing the true identity of Black Noir, who throws all the cards in the Homelander’s journey. So did the adaptation follow the comics?
Showrunner Eric Kripke answered this question variety. “In the comics, there’s actually a Homelander clone the whole time, and he’s the one who does all these horrible things.”he explained.
This is a huge twist…that Eric Kripke chose not to use. “I’m sure the fans are angry that I’m not going in that direction, but it wasn’t satisfying for me.”, he believes. But the showrunner explained his choice:
“I think if we’re going to follow this bad guy, we want that guy to be the bad guy. So I’ve never really been interested in the idea of a clone. Also, cloning seems—I’m like, it sounds silly—but cloning seems too magical for the show, and we’re trying Let’s say that superheroes are the only extraordinary element and everything that can be done in reality.
Indeed, Eric Kripke has never hidden his intentions to use the superhero genre as a scathing critique of the extremist excesses of society and the Trump era in the United States. To find out more about the new Black Noir, we have to wait for the next episodes of the 4th season of the series.
