Nine years after Vice Versa and its $858 million worldwide gross, its sequel Vice Versa 2 hits our theaters. This second opus directed by Kelsey Mann (who thus replaces Pete Docter and Ronaldo del Carmen) was well received by the French press, with an average rating of 3.7 out of 5.
It is the best movie of the week, ahead of The Bikeriders and The Summer With Carmen, rated 3.6 out of 5. Note that the first part was much better, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 (for 34 reviews).
What is it about?
Freshly graduated, Riley is now a teenager, not to mention a major upheaval at headquarters, who must face something unexpected: the arrival of new emotions!
Joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust – which have worked successfully for a long time – do not really know how to behave when anxiety comes. And it seems he’s not the only one…
What does the press think?
According to 20 minutes:
“The world created by the wizards at Pixar is so rich that we can watch Vice-Versa 2 multiple times without exhausting its discoveries.” By Caroline Vie – 4/5
According to La Croix:
“The film is also surprising in its willingness to explore the question of faith, those ideas born out of life experiences that shape identity at a defining age.” By Stephen Dreyfuss – 4/5
According to Le Figaro:
“A coming-of-age movie, intelligent and sensitive.” By Olivier Delcroix – 4/5
According to Le Parisien:
“If On the contrary 2 is so successful, it is the ability to replicate the original film: to put the audience in a situation of identification, to identify themselves or compare loved ones in this struggle. Break the emotions that inhabit the young girl amazing! By Reno Baroniani – 4/5
According to Les Inrockuptibles:
“The genius of the film, like its first part, is that it gives us the impression that it is happening in our heads and encourages us to understand our own mental operations with the help of our own allegorical system. By Theo Ribeton – 4/5
Versus 2: Will your kids love the sequel to the famous Pixar movie?
According to Liberation:
“Unfolding, like the first part, along a quest to reconcile conflicting emotions, the plot is less poignant but almost as ingenious.” By Olivier Lamm – 4/5
According to Ouest France:
If Vice Versa 2 didn’t revolutionize the genre, it’s good family entertainment that might give some parents a better understanding of what’s going on in their teenagers’ heads. By Philip Lemon – 4/5
According to Télé Loisirs:
“The film cleverly deals with the delicate transition from childhood to adolescence, alternating between humor and more poignant moments for our greatest joy! By Cedric Chukrun – 4/5
According to CinemaTeaser:
“Stuck with its need to be great entertainment for the whole family and its desire to grow up and take on deeper, less spectacular themes, Vice-Versa 2 is like its hero. Not quite finished, but with good bottoms.” by Renan Cross – 3/5
According to Critikat.com:
“Unfortunately, the contraction that Vice Versa 2 takes is matched by the second: Pixar seems to have kept its former ambitions in the back of a hangar, like Riley’s forgotten memories.” by Jose Morel – 2/5
