The new episode of ‘House of the Dragon 2’ presented various scenarios that warn us about the start of the war between the Green Council and the Black Council. Here we explain the real meaning of its ending.
War in Westeros: The Green and Black Councils Prepare for the Dragon Dance
The second episode shows the aftermath of Prince Jaehaerys’ assassination at the hands of Blood and Cheese and how Aegon II and Rhaenyra Targaryen’s allies reacted. First, the current guardian of the Iron Throne shows a great thirst for revenge.
Aegon realizes that his father may never have wanted to be king. This makes him feel like a false ruler, installed as a puppet by his grandfather Otto and his mother Alicent. Furthermore, he never felt the love of those who were meant to love him, and as a result, he cannot show love to others. With so much loss, anger and loneliness, he ends up breaking down over his son’s death, so much so that his tears show his most human and fragile side.
In an attempt to convince the world that Rhaenyra Targaryen was guilty of the crime, a public procession is held showing the little boy’s body being cremated in the dragon’s pit. While this helped the Green Council to be seen as the “good side”, the idea falls apart when Aegon II orders all the rats in the castle to be killed and their corpses hanged in the city, instead of just looking for whoever was involved. the murder. After all, he himself causes the death of the golden cape who was also involved.
Arryk and Erryk knights fight to the death
Criston Cole, for his part, shows his frustration at not being able to prevent the prince’s death and gives Sir Arryk the mission to go to Dragonstone, impersonating the Erryk twin, who supports Rhaenyra, to kill her and get revenge. The soldier infiltrates and almost achieves his objective, but is stopped by his brother and they have a heated fight in which no one knows who is who.
This battle ends with both of them dead, giving a metaphor for how the war will cause thousands of deaths fighting for their beliefs of the true king or queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Rhaenyra suffers the consequences of Jaehaerys’ death and Otto Hightower is no longer the Hand of the King.
Rhaenyra also battles Daemon, as Jaeharys’ death leads her allies to believe that she ordered Jaehaerys’ murder, further complicating alliances with the other houses. Daemon leaves Dragonstone riding Caraxes’ dragon, leaving the audience confused as to whether he will return to support his wife or plan to attack Harrenhal.
On the other hand, Otto Hightower is relieved of his position as Hand of the King by Aegon II and replaced by Criston Cole, who maintains a secret relationship with Alicent. This move, in the future, will end up affecting them directly.
The end of the second chapter shows the point of no return to begin the war known as the Dance of Dragons and the first moves made by both the Green Council and the Black Council to take control of the Seven Kingdoms.
