Part of the success of the Shrek films can be attributed to the affection the audience has for the characters who complete the plot alongside the protagonist. The first friend the famous ogre makes is Donkey, who meets him in the first film of the series.
The character is one of the most beloved and, now, he will have his own film. This is according to information from Colliderobtained by Eddie Murphy, the actor who provides the character’s American voiceover.
Furthermore, Murphy confirmed that a new Shrek, the fifth in the series, is already in production. Almost 25 years have passed since the first feature film focusing on the green ogre, which debuted on the big screen in 2001. His last appearance at the cinema was in 2010, 14 years ago.
He won’t be the first character from this universe to have a spin-off. Another great ally of Shrek in his adventures in the original films was Puss in Boots, who has already had two films released as the protagonist.
The Puss in Boots films were released after the original franchise, in 2011 and 2022. Now, Shrek fans can prepare to enjoy another feature film highlighting one of the most beloved characters.
We started making Shrek 5 months ago. I did it, I recorded the first act and we’ll do it this year, we’ll finish it. “Shrek” is coming out and Donkey is getting his own movie. We’ll also do Donkey. So let’s do a Shrek and a [filme] Donkey.
