A volleyball coach was sentenced to 60 years in prison on charges of sex crimes against his student athletes. According to the decision issued by the Public Prosecutor of Santa Catarina (MPSC), the man was convicted of the crimes of rape of a vulnerable person, inducing the use of drugs and alcohol by young people and subjection to humiliating situations.

Andrea Testa I was a coach in São José, in Greater Florianópolis, when everything happened. According to the MPSC complaint, the technician took advantage of the teenagers’ position and admiration to embarrass and rape the victims. At the time he was part of a social project coordinated by a non-profit sports organisation.
The crimes occurred in the two “athletes’ homes” managed by the municipal administration. The venues housed 11 boys and five girls who played on the volleyball team. Under the coach’s responsibility, these athletes were harassed and forced to drink alcohol, until the rape occurred.
To avoid detection, according to the MPSC, Testa threatened to disconnect the young people from the project and promised professional growth in exchange for silence.
The technician must resort freely
Despite the conviction, the coach will be able to appeal freely. André Testa was sentenced to 60 years of imprisonment in the initial closed regime, as well as three years and nine months of imprisonment in the initial open regime and a 110 day fine.
The decision takes into account four convictions for the crime of rape of a vulnerable person, as well as another conviction for rape and one for unlawful coercion. The technician was also sent to trial for inducing children and adolescents to consume alcohol and for instigating the abusive use of narcotic substances.
The report did not find André Testa’s defense, but the space remains open for contact.
