June is LGBT Pride month, so there’s more celebration of stories depicting the love, hardships and more experienced by those in this community.
This is the case with “I have to die every night”, Amazon Prime Video’s commitment to portray the experience of the LGBT community in Mexico in the 80s.
The series ‘I Must Die Every Night’ is based on a book
Premiering on June 7, 2024, the show’s plot centers on Guillermo, a young man newly arrived in the then Federal District, where he explores his sexuality in a time of change.
The story also depicts the lives of several characters who converge at El Nueve, a famous LGBT bar in the Mexican capital.
I Must Die Every Night is an adaptation of Guillermo Osorno’s book of the same name. The book, published in 2014, is an extraordinary chronicle of Mexico City during the 1980s. Gay culture and the artistic, literary and musical movements expressed at the fringes of society are the central themes of the work.
Silvia Navarro Leads the Cast of ‘I Must Die Every Night’
The production has a young and top Mexican cast, although Silvia Navarro has stolen everyone’s attention with her performance as Gloria.

Where was Bar 9 from ‘I Have to Die Every Night’?
The events of the series take place around The Nine, which actually existed in real life. The nightclub was of great importance to the LGBT community in Mexico, since, according to “El Universal”, it was one of the first openly gay in the city. According to the aforementioned newspaper, personalities and politicians also met there.
The bar El Nuo was located on London Street in the Juárez neighborhood of the Mexican capital. Its doors were open from 1977 to 1989. Currently, the building has other appearances and looks abandoned.
