The Pope spoke with Al Gore, former vice president of the USA
Pope Francis received the former US Vice President Albert Arnold Gore, better known as Al Gore, in the Vatican this Friday (28) and they talked about climate change.
The North American, who is in the Italian capital for a three-day event organized by the Climate Reality Project association, met privately with the religious leader at the Santa Marta residence.
On the occasion, Al Gore praised the Pope for the impact that the encyclical Laudato Si had on the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and for the recent apostolic exhortation Laudate Deum.
The 76-year-old entrepreneur and environmentalist commented that the Vatican is an example of ecological transition, citing the mega agrovoltaic plant within the extraterritorial area of Santa Maria de Galeria, near Rome.
The pontiff, in turn, thanked Al Gore for the “climate concern” that has always guided his political activity.
The two agreed on the need to accelerate the energy transition, despite resistance from large fossil fuel companies. Furthermore, the Pope and Al Gore discussed possible forms of collaboration to try to have a greater impact on public opinion. .
