I wish the US had “strong” leadership again, as it had under Reagan, says the Fed’s Bowman

Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman said Friday that she believes the United States has moved away from the style of international leadership it enjoyed under Republican President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s and that she would like to see a return to that style.

“President Reagan’s ability to work closely with like-minded leaders from around the world at such a crucial time in our national defense … instilled the idea of strength as leadership,” Bowman said at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Institute and Foundation’s Leadership Council Conference, in response to a question about the legacy of the 40th president of the United States.

“I think we’re moving away from that a little bit, and I’d like to see us get back to demonstrating strength around the world to support a lot of our partnerships.”
