In 1985, an entire generation fell under the spell of spectacular and futuristic adventures in time. Intelligent and innovative, Robert Zemeckis’ legendary saga is a clever blend of action, science fiction, humor, suspense and twists, all in a thrilling plot full of engaging characters and explosive adventures – a plot that’s flawed, however!
And there’s one that even the creators didn’t manage to protect, though they tried: it’s the third installment in the crazy adventures of Doc (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty (Michael J. Fox), released on July 18, 1990. on our French screens.
Indeed, in Back to the Future III, the 1955 Doctor smiles when he learns that thirty years later he named his dog “Einstein”. However, this shouldn’t have been new information to him because Einstein was on the videotape that Marty showed the 1955 document in the first movie, meaning he should have already known about it and shouldn’t have been surprised.
Rediscover the scene where Marty tells Doc he’s from the future and shows him some pictures from 1985:
To defend against this inconsistency, the creators of the franchise claimed that Doc simply did not see or remember this part of the tape… At the time, many found this explanation implausible…
But in the end, like the franchise’s other minor missteps, we’re not complaining, the temporal epic remains one of the most iconic sagas of all time, and absolutely adorable.
Three unforgettable episodes of Back to the Future are currently available to re-watch on Prime Video streaming.
