Inside Out 2 is the first film to reach a billion since Barbie

After months of crisis with disappointing box office receipts, Hollywood cinema can breathe a sigh of relief (at least for now). Inside Out 2 continues to break box office records and this Sunday (30th) reached the billion dollar box office threshold.

Pixar’s animation is the first to achieve such a feat since Barbie, released almost a year ago, in July 2023. The billion mark has become harder to beat after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inside Out 2’s records don’t stop there. The film, which hit theaters in Brazil on the 20th, also became the fastest animated film to reach $1 billion at the box office, surpassing Frozen 2, which reached the figure after being in theaters for 25 days.

What do you need to know about Inside Out 2?

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the new Pixar film presents Riley as a teenager filled with new emotions, including anxiety, envy, shame and boredom.

For those who don’t remember, the headquarters (headquarters) of Riley’s mind is commanded by Joy, who, along with her other feelings, tries to help the character as she struggles to adapt to the changes in her life. In the new plot, however, the group will find itself facing one of the greatest challenges: the arrival of adolescence and, consequently, new feelings. Watch the trailer here!

A critical and commercial success, Inside Out won the 2016 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, as well as a nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The film also dominated the box office, grossing more than $850 million worldwide.

The original film is available on Disney+.
