June ended with a look (and references) to the future – at least as far as the universe created by George R.R. Martin is concerned. The third episode of the second season of The House of the Dragon (House of the Dragon), released on Sunday (30), brought details and Easter eggs – almost literally, in this case – relating to War of the Thrones (game of Thrones), whose plot takes place just over 170 years after the spin-off.
The new episode contains important details that you may not have noticed
In this episode, the civil war between the Black and Green councils looms, as Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) heads alone to Harrenhal to protect the castle.
Helaena Targaryen’s drawings in House of the Dragon show the future of Westeros
We begin with the room of Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban), queen of Westeros at the current time in the series. Glimpses of the future fill the girl’s mind, and she has begun to scribble them not only on the pages of the notebook but also on the walls of her room (the production talked about it in a behind the scenes video of the first episode of the new season). Attentive fans have noticed, analyzing the illustrations, that Helaena’s visions go far – two centuries ahead of House of the Dragon. This is because they reference iconic and shocking events game of Thrones. Among these were:
House of the Dragon Episode 3 Shows Familiar Dragon Eggs
In the third episode, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) sends her youngest children to the Vale, in the hope that her sons Aegon and Viserys will travel to Pentos at a later time. She asks Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) to accompany them, along with her dragons Tyraxes and Stormcloud. And four very fragile dragon eggs.
Three of these eggs – one gold, one green, and one red and black – might look familiar to eagle-eyed fans. That’s because they match the colors of the eggs Daenerys receives from Illyrio Mopatis (Roger Allam) in the first episode of game of Thrones.
So Rhaena would have guarded these eggs more than a century before they reached Daenerys? Yes, and it was confirmed by Geeta Vasant Patel, none other than the director of the third episode. Mashable.
“These are Daenerys’ eggs. All of us who worked on this series are huge fans of Game of Thrones, so it was very exciting to record this scene,” said the director.
