After the box office failure of Neil Marshall’s Hellboy starring David Harbor ($55 million internationally on a $50 million budget), we thought the film adaptation of Mike Mignola’s comic book saga was over.
However, in 2023, Brian Taylor – director of Hyper Tension and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – announces a new reboot. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is inspired by the comics Crooked Man By Mike Mignola and Joshua Dysart, published in 2008.
A more intimate and dark film
in the given interview ColliderThe director explained his intention:I love the character of Hell. Guillermo Del Toro’s films were large-scale space operas and pure Del Toro.
But some of the comics that Mike Mignola was creating were very different. It was more of folkloric horror. We saw a younger Hell wandering the dark corners of the world…
Jack Kesey as Hellboy
Crooked Man is an iconic book written by Mike and drawn by Richard Corben, another legend. Set in the late 50s, this is my favorite version of the character. So it’s exciting for me to come back to that and offer a version of Hellboy that we haven’t seen before.”
And that’s what the trailer is all about Hellboy: The Crooked Man – revealed today – informs us. Far from being a big colorful blockbuster, this new version promises a darker, more intimate, edgier film with a young hellboy.
It is also the American actor Jack Cassidy, who has already been seen in the TV series The Strain and in Deadpool 2, where he plays the black Tom Cassidy, who plays the right-hand man of destruction. He is surrounded by Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Leah McNamara and Joseph Marcel.
The release date has not been announced yet.
