Runway’s Gen-3 Alpha AI model impresses with lifelike video and can now be used by subscribers

Runway released its Gen-3 Alpha AI model on Tuesday (1). The new feature can generate realistic-looking videos from text or image commands, and promises to compete with OpenAI’s Sora.




The Gen-3 Alpha was announced last month but was not yet available for commercial use. The model is capable of understanding editing commands, such as camera movement adjustments and scene controls to adjust the direction of the clip.

How to use Gen-3 Alpha

The technology has been released to Runway subscribers:

  1. Access app.runwayml.com;
  2. Select “Register”;
  3. Sign in;
  4. Choose a subscription plan;
  5. In the main panel, select the Gen-3 Alpha banner;
  6. Submit instructions to create a video.

Runway also has a free version, but the video generator uses the predecessor model Gen-2. In addition, the platform has tools to generate images, remove backgrounds, and even create audio with artificial intelligence.

Videos increasingly realistic

OpenAI surprised the market by announcing Sora video AI, but it is no longer alone in the dispute: similar models Kling AImade by the owner of Kwai, and the Dream Machineof Luma AI, have already been launched with the aim of generating videos that are ever closer to reality.
