The month of July traditionally sees little rain in most parts of Brazil. July continues with neutrality in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific.
July began with a large cold front, which brought rain and low temperatures, with the passage of a strong cold air mass over the center-south of the country. But climatology shows that July is a dry month in the country, with little or no rain.
The El Niño that formed last year ended with the end of autumn. What is now expected is the development of La Niña, but in August. July continues with a neutral temperature pattern in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean.
What to expect from July temperatures?
The expectation is that July will be a month with above-normal average temperatures practically throughout Brazil.
July 2024 to Have Above Average Temperatures in Brazil (Climate)
The areas that will experience the most atypical temperatures, above normal, are expected to be the northwest of Paraná, the center-west and north of the state of São Paulo, the Triângulo Mineiro, the extreme south of Goiás, the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the center-south and west of Mato Grosso and the extreme south of the state of Rondônia.
However, it should be noted that winter afternoons, including the month of June, are usually warm in Rondônia and also in the center-west of the country. Temperatures between 30°C and 33°C are quite common during the month of June, especially in Mato Grosso, in the areas of Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul.
In most areas of Rio Grande do Sul, average temperatures in July 2024 are expected to be close to normal due to the frequent passage of polar air through the state. Several polar masses will have to act on Rio Grande do Sul, but they will not always extend over the entire southern region.
In the second half of the month, intense cold air masses are expected to arrive across the country.
What to expect from rain in July 2024?
The month of July traditionally sees little or no rain in most areas of Brazil. It is common in most areas of the Center-West, Southeast, states such as Acre, Rondônia, Tocantins, but also in southern Pará and many inland areas of the Northeast, to spend the month without a single drop of rain.

Below-average rain forecast for much of Brazil (Climatempo)
Little or no rain in July is the most common in most of Brazil. Rare rain events are generally associated with the passage of large cold fronts over the country. But even strong cold fronts often cause only cloudiness and lowering of temperatures in the interior of the country, but not rain.
In general, most of the rain in July falls in the South Region, on the east coast of the Northeast and also in the far north of the country. For July 2024, Climatempo’s forecast is that it will rain a little less than normal. This means that many areas of the Southeast, Center-West, Northeast and North will spend the month without seeing any rain.
This forecast of less rain than normal is represented on the map by shades of brown. White indicates average precipitation, but this means almost no rain. The average precipitation within this empty area, calculated over a 30-year period from 1991 to 2020, is not even 10 mm. In some places, such as Ibipetuba, in Bahia, or the region around the city of Peixe, in Tocantins, the average rainfall is zero.
Rainfall is expected to be only slightly above average in central, southern, eastern and northeast Rio Grande do Sul and in southern and eastern Santa Catarina, including Greater Porto Alegre, Greater Florianópolis and the mountainous areas of the two states.
