It’s been 14 years since Katherine Heigl left Grey’s Anatomy! And the least we can say is that his departure caused a scandal at the time. While many pointed the finger at her behavior on set, it was her rejection of an Emmy nomination that lit the powder.
To remind you, in 2008, the actor said: “I don’t feel like I had the material this season to merit an Emmy nomination, and in the spirit of maintaining the integrity of this Academy organization, I’m withdrawing my name from the competition.”
And many years later, the choice is still heavily criticized, until the man who gave his features to Izzy Stevens once again revisited the statement that changed his career in an interview with Shannon Doherty. As a guest on her podcast, Let’s Be Clear, the charming actress immediately put her feet in the pot:
“I don’t know anyone who turned down an Emmy nomination except you!” To which Katherine Heigl quickly responded: “Actually, I haven’t, even though everyone says that. I haven’t turned it down. To be nominated, you have to apply yourself. You have to submit your work and then the jury will review it. And they decide whether to nominate you or not.”
It specifies: “I didn’t submit my work that year. I shouldn’t have said anything. I should have said I forgot to submit my name because it created such a scandal. “There was no need at all! I’m trying to make an unequivocal comment about the material I got that year, because I didn’t feel it at all.”
“I didn’t think I deserved to even be considered for an Emmy nomination. I wasn’t proud of my work. I would never be so bold or arrogant as to turn down a nomination. I’d take it if someone ever offered it to me. I’d be up for it!”
“But I knew there was nothing that year that was worth it. I was just trying to have a decent attitude, I guess. I was trying to keep some integrity. I really didn’t want to be a bitch!” He humbly concludes. Will this new confidence allow her to finally let go of this story? To be continued…
