Starlink has 200,000 customers in Brazil and dominates satellite Internet

With more than 200 thousand accesses in May 2024 alone, Starlink occupies first place in the Anatel ranking of satellite internet providers in Brazil

Starlink is the largest satellite Internet provider in Brazil, according to public data from Anathele. As of May 2024, the company had a 42.5% share of the native fixed broadband market in space. This is equivalent to more than 200,000 visits per month.

Anatel’s ranking sees Starlink in first place, with 200,320 accesses. Hughes follows, with 179,462 visits. The two companies dominate the sector in Brazil, given that in third place – Viasat – there are only 26,456 accesses.

In total, satellite Internet accounts for 0.9% of all access in the country. Although the share may seem small, it has grown in recent months.

In May 2023, for example, the percentage was 0.8%. At the time, Starlink had a much smaller presence in Brazil, with only 57,605 logins. The company has grown more than threefold in 12 months, as shown in the following charts:

Starlink has grown in Brazil thanks to its good cost-benefit ratio

Available in Brazil from January 2022, the company’s satellite Internet network SpaceX is increasingly present in the country. The service has gained its current popularity not only due to the promise of high speeds, but also due to the variety of plans and prices.

Currently, the most basic plan for homes can be purchased starting at R$184 per month. However, you must invest in the antenna kit, which costs R$2,000, plus taxes.

It is worth noting that Starlink uses the most modern antennas on the market, with automated guidance. The company also has satellites positioned in low orbit, ensuring a stable connection, with high range and low latency.

Additionally, Starlink is the only company that offers mobile satellite Internet plans for travel and boats/RVs.

According to a survey conducted by the Minha Conexão website, in the first quarter of 2024, the average speed of the service was 67 Mbps.
