‘That ’90s Show’: Why ‘That ’70s Show’ Cast Won’t Appear in Part 2

Part 2 of “That ’90s Show” left many open questions in the air. One of them has to do with the original cast of ‘That ’70s Show’: why didn’t Eric, Fez, Jackie or Michael return, but Donna did?

Why didn’t Eric, Leia’s father, appear in ‘That ’90s Show’ part 2?

The first installment of the Netflix series brought back some of the most beloved characters from “That ’70s Show,” including Eric, Donna, Jackie, Michael and Fez. This first story introduced the first two as the parents of the new protagonist, Leia, so fans of the original series saw Topher Grace and Laura Prepon in their iconic characters.

In this second part, we saw Donna again, but the big absentee was Eric, who, according to the plot, could not leave the city of Chicago.

In real life, Topher Grace did not join the Netflix series because of his “scheduling issues and other challenges,” Callie Haverda, who plays Leia on “That ’90s Show,” revealed to The Wrap.

Although Eric’s absence was notable, Laura Prepon gained more prominence in the series, appearing more in her role as Leia’s mother. Behind the scenes, the actress also had an important role as she directed some of the episodes of ‘That ’90s Show’.

Other actors from “That ’70s Show” also did not return to “That ’90s Show”

The first part of the series also revealed a little about what had become of the rest of the group of friends. Jackie and Michael are the parents of Jay, Leia’s boyfriend, and in the only episode where Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher were dating they said they were getting married for the second time.

Fez’s backstory was further explored, saying that he was a successful hairdresser and had an affair with Sherri, the Formans’ new neighbor.

Despite the hopes of fans that the actors would make another cameo in the series, this did not happen.

Last April, Kunis told “Entertainment Tonight” that neither she nor her husband would reprise their characters because “we’ve already done our thing, introduced our son and that’s it.”

For his part, Wilmer Valderrama told “People” in an interview in mid-June that he “didn’t have time” to get back on “That ’90s Show” after working on the series “NCIS.”
