The movie ‘Gladiator’ was released at the beginning of the 21st century and now, 24 years later, its sequel will arrive. Although the news didn’t really excite fans as they thought it wasn’t a good idea to continue the story, it turns out that the first trailer that was released on July 9th got everyone excited because of the new characters we’ll be seeing. back on screen, the plot and battle scenes in the Roman Coliseum. Next, we’ll explain everything you need to know about it.
Ridley Scott presents ‘Gladiator 2’: What you need to know about the sequel
The new story, directed by Ridley Scott, will show Lucius Verus, nephew of Commodus and son of Lucilla, as an adult ready to fight as a gladiator, following in the footsteps of his deceased idol Maximus, played by Russell Crowe.
Lucius will work for Macrinus (the character played by Denzel Washington), a merchant with the power and financial resources to destroy the forces of the Roman Empire from within. In addition, he will have a showdown to the death with Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), with whom he appears to have unfinished business and a latent grudge.
A nostalgic detail is that, in the trailer for “Gladiator 2”, there are references to the first film, such as flashbacks of Maximus, a minor Lucius Verus, and even the salvage of elements of the ancient warrior, such as his armor and ring, which will give to the protagonist his mother, Lucilla.
Who will be the new Roman emperors?
The feature film also gave us our first look at the two new redheaded co-emperors, Caracalla and Geta (played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger). These brothers existed in real life and show a desire for death and blood, just like their predecessor Commodus. However, it has not yet been specifically explained how they came to power.
Two actors who will be reprising their roles from the first film are Connie Nielsen as Lucilla and Derek Jacobi as Senator Gracchus, who will be very important in the story of Lucius Verus.
All indications are that Russell Crowe will not participate in this sequel because his character is dead, but according to the magazine ‘People’ he mentioned in an interview for the portal ‘Collider’ that he feels a little jealous of the new film.
‘Gladiator 2’ will hit theaters on November 22 this year, which is just 4 months away, so it’s highly likely that they’ll release a second trailer to grab the audience.
