The physical educator shows that it is possible to abandon a sedentary lifestyle even with an intense routine. Find out what to do every day
The health benefits of exercise are already proven by science and recognized by humanity. However, abandoning a sedentary lifestyle is one of the biggest challenges that today’s society faces.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization), one-third of the world’s adult population is physically inactive. In Brazil, IBGE data indicates that 47% of Brazilian adults and 84% of young people are sedentary.
This scenario contributes to the emergence of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, among others, which reduce the quality and life expectancy. In addition, since it affects a large part of the population, it is a public health problem.
How to Give Up a Sedentary Lifestyle
The solution is to incorporate more physical activity into your daily life in a natural way, says personal trainer and physical educator Tauan Gomes. “To escape a sedentary lifestyle, it’s important to incorporate physical activity naturally into your daily life. Even with a busy routine, finding time to keep your body active is essential to your health,” he says.
5 Tips to Be More Active in Your Everyday Life
Tauan provides some tips that can help you abandon a sedentary lifestyle and adopt a more active and healthy routine. Watch:
1 – Incorporate physical activity into your routine
“Here we are not talking about sports, running, dancing, etc., but rather small movements that we often mistake for convenience. For example, taking the stairs instead of using the elevator, walking to nearby places instead of using the car, walking the dog, etc.,” he explains.
2 – Find something you like
“Often it’s not the physical activity itself that demotivates you, but the specific one you’ve chosen. There are endless possibilities, just choose the one you have the most affinity with, such as soccer, dance, running, cycling, martial arts, bodybuilding, among others,” says the physical educator.
3 – Create the habit
“Our lives are driven by habits, so make exercise a habit too, set a schedule, avoid running away from it, choose realistic durations so as not to become demotivated over time. In the long run, physical activity will become completely natural to you,” the professional emphasizes.
In this sense, the 21 Day Technique can help. The methodology, which emerged from the studies of plastic surgeon Maxwell Maltz, in the 1960s, states that it takes 21 days to create a habit. This is because persisting in a certain task for this period would make it natural, incorporating it more easily into the routine.
4 – Passage objectives
“One of the simplest and most routine physical activities you can do is walking, it can be incorporated very easily into your daily life. It is therefore worth setting a daily step goal or at least measuring them to have a real awareness of your sedentary lifestyle, there are also mobile apps that help with this,” says Tauan.
5 – Focus on group activities
“Humans are social, so turning exercise into a social activity helps make it more enjoyable. Invite friends to play a new sport or make friends there. Focus on activities that require groups,” says the personal trainer.
