DreamWorks Animation Announces Shrek 5 for 2026, Reveals Which Actors Are Already Confirmed for the Feature Film
Now it’s official, the go-ahead has been given Shrek 5. On Tuesday (9), DreamWorks Animation confirmed that the fifth installment of the green ogre films is in development and announced its theatrical release for July 1, 2026.
The fifth sequel to Shrek – the animated series that began in 2001 and is considered one of the twenty greatest franchises of all time – the details on the film’s synopsis have not yet been revealed, but it is already known that it will be directed by Walt Dohrn (Trolls 2) and produced by Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri.
Sequence of Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004) Shrek 3 (2007) and Shrek Forever (2010), in addition to spin-offs Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots 2: The Last One Order (2022), the feature film marks another adventure for the title character: an ogre who lives in the swamp and who changes his life after going on a quest with a talking donkey and meeting Princess Fiona.
The original voice actors are back
DreamWorks Animation’s announcement, published on X (previously Twitter), was accompanied by a video promoting issue 5 with “Shrek’s Ears”, to the sound of the franchise’s theme song, All Starsof the band Smash Mouth.

Additionally, the animation studio also announced that actors Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey) and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) will be in the film, once again voicing the characters they played in the previous films.
Actor Antonio Banderas, however, who recently traveled to Brazil to promote one of his new perfumes and played Puss in Boots in the original series, has not yet been confirmed for the project.
Furthermore Shrek 5the year 2026 will be one of the busiest years in the world of animation. Aside from the DreamWorks title itself, the film Super Mario Bros two will hit the big screen on April 3, 2026, Toy Story 5 It is scheduled to debut on June 19th of the same year and Frozen 3 comes at some point (apparently, in the second half) of the period.
