Meryl Streep in one of her most iconic roles? It will no longer be available on Netflix soon!

This is a film that will soon celebrate its 20th anniversary and needs no introduction: The Devil Wears Prada is one of the essentials in the filmography of its three main actors, who are still in demand in the industry: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.

The first played Miranda Priestly, the uncompromising director of a fashion magazine, and the other two played the role of her assistants. An avowed critic of the fashion world, The Devil Wears Prada is first and foremost a feel-good film in which we love to hate this fake Anna Wintour and sympathize with Andrea, a neophyte who finally makes it to the other side… before coming to her senses.

Spice, humor and cynicism

If 2 million French viewers discovered it in the cinema at the beginning of the 2006 academic year, its multiple transmissions and its availability in streaming make it affordable. But it won’t be on Netflix soon, which will lose the rights on August 6.

And it’s even more of an opportunity to watch it again because the movie is in the news. If we already knew that a sequel in the form of a book saw the light of day a few years ago, Hollywood never explored the matter. Till today.

According to this American media, Meryl Streep has agreed to reprise her iconic role, as has Emily Blunt. And if The Devil Wears Prada 2 doesn’t follow the plot of the novel, we have to find the spice, humor and cynicism of the first part… and the character of Miranda.

Because if for 20 years Meryl Streep has shown us time and time again that she can play anything, even comedy, she especially excelled in drama before appearing in this film.

So much so that producer Wendy Finerman revealed last year that they initially castigated the famous actor — who had negotiated a higher salary before landing the project — for the role … before they saw what he was really capable of.

But when the planets align, the talent is there, and the script allows for it, it makes for this kind of intergenerational film. It remains to be seen if the second part will follow the same direction.
