Devolver Digital’s launch brings fast-paced action and will satisfy “speedrunners”
The latest version of Digital return, Foot of angerIt bears some resemblance to the game that made the independent publisher famous in 2012, Miami Direct Line. With a simple and well-executed idea, the study game Free Lives offers an intense action package that will test the player’s reflexes and nerves.
The first-person shooter is set in Crime City, a brightly colored metropolis where criminals control everything. Divided into a series of neighborhoods, all ruled by outlaws and visited in short, well-designed stages, the city is the stage for a very simple and slightly comical plot: Anger Foot has had his rarest sneakers stolen in a mega-heist and will stand his ground against all the city’s criminals until he gets them back.
The stages are quick and can be completed in a few minutes – or less, once you’ve memorized the route and where enemies will spawn. Anger Foot’s main weapon is his kick, which blasts objects, doors, and enemies, but the player can also use firearms, which are quickly discarded in favor of any left by fallen enemies. The trick here is to never stop moving and blast opponents, who fall after one or two hits, which helps mask the less than precise aim.
Racing through the levels at high speed and completing the challenges the game offers will earn you higher scores, but it requires quick thinking, sharp reflexes, and a good memory to memorize the dangers that arise along the way. You can complete the entire game in up to eight hours, probably less depending on your skill, and you’ll have a lot of fun along the way.

As the game progresses, it introduces new mechanics that keep the gameplay interesting without ever making it difficult, such as jumping across city terraces while avoiding a sniper’s aim or dodging subway trains in the middle of combat. There are also special sneakers, unlocked by completing a level with a three-star rating.
These pairs of sneakers have unique perks, like an extra life or making doors explode when kicked (my favorite), reducing gravity, and other more fun effects, like making enemies have huge heads. You can only equip one sneaker per level, and in a way, they work like cheat codes in the old games.
Considerations

Anger Foot is a beautiful action game that shows how a simple and well-executed idea can be enough to entertain the player for many hours. Its short and fast stages will surely make the game a hit with speedrunners. It is even a shame that the game is only available on computers.
Anger Foot is available for PC.
