James Bond’s Invisible Car ‘Really Existed’: Relive Pierce Brosnan’s Incredulous Look at His Big Hit

Die Another Day is the last James Bond in the series, directed by Pierce Brosnan. Released in 2002, the film received mixed reviews, in part because certain moments were deemed over-the-top and particularly implausible, including some of the gadgets used by 007 during the mission.

According to the director, an invisible car is possible

“The question is, what happened to me?”

Bond’s Aston Martin became invisible, remote-controlled, full of weapons, a spy manipulated by virtual reality glasses or generating sound waves… these ideas left some viewers confused and, today, the director of the film, Lee Tamahori explains. There is no problem for him.

Tamahori spoke A blend of cinema Criticism from fans, and especially these famous gadgets, which are considered particularly fantastic, agreed.

  • Pierce Brosnan doesn’t like his 007: ‘It was never good enough’

“I know there have been negative comments about the invisible car, but it’s all based on scientific reality. All this really exists. Adaptive camouflage was developed by the Soviet Union to trick their adversaries into thinking that there were no tanks. They were hiding there.”

And Ikaros, then?

But it wasn’t just an invisible machine that interrogated the audience. There was also Icarus, a solar-powered orbital station intended to become a weapon of destruction by activating a network of mines between North and South Korea. But here again Tamakhor relies on science:

“Even if it is based on another attempt by Russia to capture sunlight in the winter months by reflecting its rays, (…) to be able to grow crops in the middle of winter. It has been done, but it has its source in real, concrete science.”

Did these statements convince you? Always appreciated Die Another Day’s stunts and wondered if they were believable? In any case, this James Bond was the highest grossing movie with Pierce Brosnan, collecting $431.9 million worldwide.

The alleged implausibility of his story did not affect the film’s income, and for the financiers of the project, that’s all that matters!
