“Deapool & Wolverine” will finally hit theaters on July 25. Although, there was a time when Ryan Reynolds believed that the film could not be made and only Hugh Jackman could save the project.

In an interview with “Vanity Fair,” published June 24, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, director of “Deadpool and Wolverine,” talked about how difficult the creative process of the film was for them.

“Spiritually, I felt like I owed another (film), but just trying to figure out what it was going to be and how it was going to happen, it took me a while. There’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one. (…) I was talking to Marvel here and there, proposing different ideas, many different ideas,” recalls the Deadpool actor.

When Levy, with whom he had worked on “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project,” joined the project, he also participated in the brainstorming for “Deadpool 3.” Along with screenwriters Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells, the actor and director met for “months” to “suggest possible stories and meet a few times a week with Kevin Feige (president of Marvel Studios) and her team “Marvel. “

“We had to find the right story. “Honestly, we had a hard time coming up with a story that felt original and didn’t come from the other two Deadpool movies,” Levy said.

However, that didn’t seem to get to the point where “they were ready to say to Kevin, ‘You know what? Maybe now is not the right time because we can’t think of a story.”

However, a call saved the creative team. On August 15, 2022, Hugh Jackman was on vacation from his Broadway shows and wondering what the next step in his career would be.

“I literally thought: Deadpool-Wolverine. I want to make this movie. That’s what I want,” the 55-year-old actor recalled in an interview with “Vanity Fair.”

Although he himself questioned how they would continue Wolverine after the events of ‘Logan’, he was so determined to do it that he immediately called Ryan Reynolds.

The timing couldn’t be better since, according to Reynolds, he was close to reuniting with Feige, where he suggested the possibility of Deadpool and Wolverine reuniting in the film.

“On Zoom with Kevin, we got straight to the point. We said, “Look, this call just came. I feel like we’d be stupid to point the finger at this gift horse and ignore it. That’s a one in a billion chance. I really feel like that’s what we’ve been looking for.”
