Is the new Superman movie a copycat of ‘The Boys’? The similarity of these characters caused fans to react

The new Superman movie, written and directed by James Gunn, is in full production and promises to be the start of a renewed DC universe. Recently, an image revealed the costume of one of the characters in the new installment of this superhero, which, by the way, some followers have already begun to say that it bears a striking resemblance to Black Noir, one of the villains of the popular Prime Video series “The Boys ».

With its premiere slated for July 11, 2025, every new leak from the set or filming fuels fans’ curiosity about the adventures of the ‘Man of Steel’.

In this new installment, David Corenswet plays the iconic hero, already established as the protector of Metropolis. The film will not explore the origin of the man born on the planet Krypton, but will focus on his fight against various villains that threaten the city.

Among these antagonists, one got all the attention because of his clothes (similar to Black Noir’s) and it is speculated that he could be Ultraman.

Nathan Mitchell, the actor who plays Black Noir in “The Boys”, did not overlook this similarity and in an interview for the specialized portal Screen Rant he said he was surprised and excited when he saw the photos from the set.

He commented that while he is unsure of Gunn’s intentions, he finds it interesting that the new character’s costume is so similar to the one he wears in the Prime Video series.

Mitchell suggested that the resemblance could be an adaptation to make the character relevant in the current context of the superhero genre, which has been heavily influenced by shows like “The Boys.”

Although Gunn’s film is unlikely to adopt the satirical and violent tone of “The Boys,” the similarities between the costumes have sparked speculation. This similarity could be an indication that Gunn was inspired by Black Noir’s aesthetic for his villain, especially considering the twists both Ultraman and Black Noir have in the comics on ‘Superman’ and ‘Homelander ».

Gunn’s silence about this enigmatic character has sparked many theories. Some speculate that it could be Neil Quinn, aka Ulysses, a Superman villain who has yet to be adapted into live action. Another indicates that it could be Ultraman, a “Man of Steel” villain, but some fans say that introducing the multiverse so soon in Gunn’s new DC Universe is unlikely.

The production of the movie ‘Superman’ is progressing at a good pace and only time will tell who this mysterious character really is. Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate and eagerly await more clues that can clarify the identity of this antagonist.
